Design Consultation appointments available

If you are considering installing a custom-fitted wardrobe, dressing room, walk-in wardrobe or bespoke storage into your home, it's important to understand the process of how you will work with the designer to create a wardrobe that is perfect for you.

It begins with an understanding that every space in a home is unique and so too should be the solutions designed to enhance it. The creation of a custom wardrobe is an investment in home storage which can help with you create a beautiful and functional living space by creating made to measure organisation.

Understanding the Space and Initial Consultations

Here at Neatsmith the process starts with a detailed consultation, where every inch of the available space is carefully assessed. This stage is important as it will lay out the groundwork for the entire project. Our expert designers will listen to your storage needs, style preferences, and take time to understand the overall look you are seeking to create. The goal is to understand not just the physical space but also your lifestyle and how the wardrobe will contribute positively to this. Measurements are then carefully taken to make sure that the finished product will fit seamlessly into the designated area – we will even go as far as to measure your most important objects such as handbags you wish to display or the height of your shoes to ensure everything you want displayed and stored has a place in your bespoke wardrobes.

Design and Customisation

Following the initial consultation, the design phase begins. Our designers draft blueprints and 3d visualisations incorporating every aspect from the layout of hanging spaces, shelves, and drawers to the selection of materials and finishes is tailored to your personal style and needs. Choices typically range from classic woods to modern finishes, all chosen to complement the home's existing decor.

Adding features like pull-out shoe racks, hidden compartments and lighting systems can make a storage space a focal point of the bedroom. This phase will involve a lot of communication and creativity. Revisions may need to be made to make sure the final design is exactly what you imagined and practical. Selection of external and internal finishes, back panels, mirrors, lighting, handles and more.

Craftsmanship and Building

The crafting stage happens at our factory in the UK is where our in-house skilled technicians turn design blueprints into reality. High-quality materials are sourced to guarantee durability and aesthetics. The construction of a custom-fitted wardrobe involves various specialists from woodworkers to finishers, each playing a critical role in the assembly process. Precision tools are employed to cut, assemble, and finish each component of the wardrobe, ensuring that all pieces align perfectly.

During this stage, attention to detail is vital. The joinery techniques used are chosen for their strength and ability to bear weight, ensuring that the structure looks good and is also functional and long-lasting. The installation process is carefully planned to minimise disruption to the home.

Installation and Finishing Touches

Installation is the final stage in the journey of creating a built-in wardrobe. This phase involves the assembly of your bespoke wardrobe, accompanying furniture and and the integration of lighting. It also requires precision and attention to detail, making sure that the fit is ideal, and the finish is flawless. This is why all Neatsmith installers are part of our in-house team and trained by us to be skilled at working within the confines of the existing space, adapting the units as necessary to accommodate any unforeseen challenges such as uneven walls or floors. The final product is a fully integrated, seamless addition to the room, appearing as though it was always meant to be there. We also ensure that our in-house team are clean and tidy throughout the process respecting your home as we would our own.

This might include tips on maintaining the materials and handling the fittings to prevent wear and tear. At Neatsmith, we do not sell our components independently as we offer industry-leading warranties on our products and we only use our in-house fitting team who are trained to build our wardrobes to the highest standards possible. Plus, with our manufacturing is based in England which means should additional components be required, our team is ready to handle it. Selling just doors would mean that independent installers would be combining our doors piecemeal other manufacturers components, likely of lesser quality, resulting in a less satisfactory end product.

Wood floor should always be installed BEFORE our wardrobes, a hardwood base is the preferred base for bespoke wardrobes as it gives us the strongest foundation and helps avoid sagging over time. Carpets should always be installed AFTER our wardrobes, we recommend doing it this way, not only because the floorboards be a better base for your wardrobe, but it will save a lot of time and money if you were to change the carpet at a later date.
