Ways with grey - finding the right shade for your wardrobe

Demi Neatsmith

When it comes to choosing a colour for your wardrobe design, longevity is important. The most staple piece in your bedroom, a wardrobe needs to balance the interior and work with minor cosmetic changes you may want to make to the rest of the room. Understandably the most popular choices when it comes to choosing a palate are more neutral tones. White, black and Dark Oak are serious staples but there’s a new player in the essential palate game. Shades of grey work with any colour scheme yet stand alone as their own contemporary yet timeless statement.

But what’s behind this fast-growing trend?  Grey has been prevalent in fashion for some time, and now we’re really noticing it become a staple in interiors.  Grey is a ‘new neutral’ – less sterile than white and less imposing and less masculine than black.  What’s more, it’s stylish, contemporary and easy to accessorise and works equally well with rich colours, pastels and whites.  Since it’s essentially a neutral colour it’s unlikely to date quickly and can be regularly accessorised to keep it fresh and modern.

Greys from across the spectrum work beautifully in a bedroom. When opting for darker grey doors you can bring light into your interiors by choosing white for your other furniture such as the bed and bedside tables. Lighter greys are a great base for brighter colours and really help accessories pop. Grey is also a strong complimentary colour to metallics, a trend that’s not going anywhere.

All Neatsmith wardrobes are bespoke, meaning you can choose the right colour and texture for you. Here are our top suggestions for choosing some gorgeous grey doors.

  • Matt Light Dove Grey Shaker hinged doors- The simple detailing on the shaker door creates a traditional feel, so modernise it by using a matt finish in the palest shade of grey. This is the perfect tone for those who want their wardrobe to remain understated and to blend with the rest of the interiors. Add a crystal handle to complete this elegant look.
  • Fabric hinged doors- The brushed suede effect of these fabric doors are the ultimate contemporary statement. This stylish design works perfectly as the focus piece for your bedroom.
  • Gloss Dark Dove Grey Boom doors- Simple, clean and functional these sliding doors work beautifully in a minimalist bedroom scheme. Using a gloss lacquer will ensure this darker grey reflects light and doesn’t dominate the room.
  • Grey glass Cloister doors- Our Cloister doors are the only frameless glass sliding doors in the UK. The use of large glass panels creates a seamless look and can be a great neutraliser to a busier decor scheme. Why not contrast with some bold patterned wallpaper?

Move over black and white, it’s time to think in shades of grey for the bedroom.
