Let’s go to...Whitstable
Demi Neatsmith
Planning a day trip or a weekend away that’s close to London? What about Whitstable?
This pretty working seaside town has the enviable benefit of being just 70 minutes by train from St Pancras. What’s more, it’s the ideal place to engage with the great outdoors. Think swim at lunchtime, picnic on the beach, then a walk or cycle along the long stretches of marshland in the early evening.
If you’re more of a relaxer than a doer, Whitstable has plenty to keep you occupied. Think galleries, ice-cream and antique shops. If you’re a foodie, there’s also plenty to delight.
The Michelin-starred Sportsman pub is located in Seasalter, just two miles from Whitstable, while VC Jones on Harbour Street is a fish and chip shop with an outstanding reputation. If seafood is your thing then you’re in for a treat. Whitstable is well known for their local and fresh oysters.
